Crazy day.
All day I have been trying to make time to do an entry but it has been a very crazy day. I have the privelege to teach a unit at a university called 'theatre for alternative spaces'...I have a class in excess of ninety amazing young people and we have a great deal of fun....so right this moment I am in a rush..I have to get back to the studio and finish the day's work.....keep safe and good will to all.

Wage slavery.
Sometimes I wonder how free is anybody...most of us are wage slaves. Marx was wrong about religon being the opiate of the people , really its television which numbs us....the aversage western soul would go completely nuts if the television was taken away..so how free are we ? Wage slavery makes me think of ants.....so much mindless boring repetition.

Iraq..death of the civilian woman.
The coalition are dusting their hands off for a job well done {sic] in Iraq..Let us not forget that this PRE-EMPTIVE war has broken long standing conventions in International Law that have been torn up by the coalition in one of the most significant acts of vandalism in memory....our world has been lessened by thier selfish disregard..

Hatchet job on our health system.
The universe has an enourmous sense of humour... what can we make of the fact thac John Howard has Abbott and Costello waiting in the wings for his demise so they can haggle over who will become leader...yes the universe has a sense of humour...Howard would probably prefer Abbott as he shares the particular brand of conservatism that Howard appreciates.....particularly in the light of the hatchet job that has been perpertrated on our already failing health system...Howards modus operandi is to chip bit by bit and f%$# things slowly...he has the Australian population under a bizzarre trance and is transforming this stunning nation into a new millenium Rhodesia of the south pacific...a terrible soft neo-fascism is emerging by stealth.

The mystery of exisentce eludes them.
the vested interests of politicians business, media moguls and other war cretins disallow their realisation that this universe is an amazing and profound mystery....there is much in life that is way beyond business, commerce and coersion...so do not let the canalised vision that these people propagate limit you.....push way beyond those #@$%holes...let yourself play and dream...your interior life is a treasure....that if you resist, they cannot turn it into a product....the productifying of life is a serious ,souless problem that is corroding the range of qualities that we can explore in our lives...the dominant paradigm actively seeks to limit these because it makes it easier for them to sell you their poison.

Innocent Iraq death..an old man.
The war is over [sic]...but in fact innocent Iraq civilians are still losing their lives everyday...there has been reports of up to 40 civilian deaths following an accident at a weapons storage area...We will be unlikely to hear much more about it .....imformation is being deliberately suppressed to deny us finding out whats going on...Unfortunatel General Buford Blunt inspires no confidence in me that the millitary are equipped to deal with the vast civic challenges that lay ahead...it is characteristic that the coalition had developed comphrensive plan for the invasion but no concept for re-construction...the people of Baghdad have no power, water, or telephone...the hospitals are overun...

Dusting off their hands.
The present prime minister iof Australia ...the right honourable [sic] John howard is perhaps the most destructive leader this country has ever known....and at the present moment he is jubilant...so much success [sic] the war in Iraq went off without a hitch...no Australian troops were killed in the action....the muddying of the waters in regard to unifying support for the troops with support for the war as a strategy to befuddle the population worked like a dream....yay ...his electoral support is at a high...he bestrides the international stage...the glittering prize [ the primeministership sic ] is more than he can ever imagined..yesterday he stood up on Anzac day and descibed the war in Iraq as honourable which is appalling...my dad was a returned serviceman and he would not have supported the war..he would have been compromised by the primeministers speech which implies that if you do not support the war you some how are not entering the anzac spirit...its subtle manipulation of enourmous moral issues..... I am bitterly anti-war but that not an ' out there proposition ' ..the pope was opposed to the war. J ohn Howard is a totally short term mind and in a world where 'the uncertainty principle' plays out ,real leadership is rare. History will judge this primeminister harshly...he fucked the tax system [people pay more tax than ever...he/s fu#@#$$ the higher education system. it conveniently suppresses the population....he has pre-emptively invaded another soveriegn state {the repurcussions of which will be long lasting ]...really Mr Howard stop crowing and realise that Iraq is now entering the far more complex stage as you exit stage left {disgusting]...1200 civilians died in the fist day in Baghdad and your dusting off you hands.... Benjamin Disraeli said there is no honour in politics so why do we describe you as right honourable...bizarre

And finally......
Playing can be a great means of remembering yourself through the great time - space journey...as well it can afford you the gift of forgetting when that is neccesary...{ beware however..forgetfullness is a power that can be terribly abused} ..yet such a power when used properly...good-will to all....Sifi

Fire puppet
This was a project that put a fire puppet in the hands of high school students...fire is an amazing means of allowing people a window to the animistic pulse. These young people had an unforgettable experience to guard them in the dark.....so that in those dark passages in life there is always a light and fire to illuminate that time and space....this is the gift of the fire artist..{see Neil Cameron link in body of fire section on this site}.

The Moth.
I know it sounds little but my animal spirit is the moth.....and the humble moth has given me many lessons over the years...a kind of introduction to animism...and on our planet right now thier are very few that can reach into that place that "animates' the universe...its so sad that western rationalism is a philosophy of denial..... thus that we create barriers to a deeper perception and create a world that exists in a canyon between our waking and our sleeping...a world that has become another laisse-faire product...a world bereft of pure play.

The magician ..
One of the most basic premises of magic..deep magic, not your Hollywood hype , is 'effect at a distance ' I learnt a very little as a child in Africa...it has always supported me in allowing to practice a very gentle positive force...some people call it empathy but what i am discussing ,although it has a significant empathatic aspect, goes much further than that....primarily because it occurs in a different time -space dimensional awareness...playing...pure playing is one of the most effective ways of entering that awareness....one thing that is most significant is....this is a state that cannot be spoken , + and to ' be there ' requires the primacy of FEELING...FELTNESSNESS.

Playing with cold fire puppets ina coal mine.
The difficulty of doing fire events in a coal mine is that you cannot have fire as such because of the obvious danger...hence cold fire luminosity....this project was the catalyst that propelled a whole lot of investigation in both visual and performed media prior to the W.T.C. attack on Sept 11 2001......I hope to pick up the thread of all that sometime in the future....as is most likely given the way my work makes jumps around my own time and space .

Heisenberg , De Broglie and Bohr.....Einstein , Podolsky's, Rosen's ....non-locality ....make super-luminal signals all but a possibility....who could ask for more...except perhaps for many worlds ...and theories of everything...Gell-Mann's quarks of one third spin.....super-strings and higher dimensionalities...particles of varying personalities...up down...strange and charmed...just intermediate states in a network of inter-activity.

SUCCESS WITH THE SCANNER BREAKIN!
Puppetry has always been one of the most fundamental play tools for me, not just practically but also as a powerful metaphor for the liberation of play in myself . For almost as long as I can remember, I was always interested in the 'world making ' dimension of puppets...you can't just make a puppet without also creating ,in a very deep sense ,a world that can be inhabited by the puppet. That world making aspect is something I have very deliberately taken into other art forms in ways which are both subtle but also obvious. The use of this is not restricted to the performing arts but can be very readily adapted to the visual arts. I have been surprised by visual arts teachers surprise and puzzlement when I have suggested that I would like to teach thier students some puppetry...they do not realise that what I am really dealing with is 'world making' and that the puppet making is relatively incidental. N.B.These things can only be discovered and FELT in physical practice .

Play power.
Its anzac day here in australia and as a mark of respect for all those civilians and all those soldiers that have died in war ever...I will refrain from talking about the Iraq war crime. Instead I thought To honour those lost I would devote the day to PLAY... unfortunately I am locked out from my scanner which is rather an impediment to my perameters to play....so I have got to break into my scanner somehow and that will be a playfull trick in itself...so if I don't post anything else today i will not have succeeded in reaching the sacred scanner. and will have gone home to engage another kind of PLAYING we were not born to work but to PLAY.

Young soldiers die.
I really like Jim Lehrers news on SBS.. at the end of the program they have what they describe as an honour roll to mark the deaths of soldiers during the war. Many of these are young men 19, 20 , 21 etc and it is so sad the loss of these young mens lives...and I am certain that their mothers did not grow them for the purposes of war...and it makes me angry that the agendas of old men are served by the loss of young lives ....you do not see the political misers take to the battlefield...to much risk to their cowardly skins....so we make our young men and women do the dirty work at a point in their lives when they are naive to the implications of their actions.....the survivers often have to battle the terrible repercussions of war trauma.

Millitary analysts
What are all the millitary analysts , retired majors and brigadier generals going to do now ' the war sic ' is over...I was amazed at the range and numbers of this bizarre proffession as they crawled out of the wood work in recent months...its going to be tough for them without all this excitement...but perhaps they have retired back to thier dens to play war games on big tables and push toy tanks around and dream of the next engagement...it seems bizarre to me that you play out killing scenarios to practice for the real thing... but there is always that great backstop 'GOD' to lend a semblance of moral authority to a moral vacuum...They would regard themselves as decent men doing a difficult job...but thats just utter nonsense... its phallocentric self justification to appease thier hollow souls...my advice to them is get yourselves a deeper inner life and realise that human frailty is one of the few universals on this dark planet , and we have a responsibility to give voice to that. TAKE YOUR WAR TOYS OUTSIDE AND BURN THEM.

The green eyed fly.
When I was a kid I can remember playing up behind the big dining halls that served the differing national populations of the migrant hostel at Wacol...the light grey ashpalt was very old and chipped and rutted....we would beg for dry ice and kick it and flick it around as it steamed and we would chuck it in water and watch the bubbles and smoke and be magicians.....there was a hugh outflow pipe ,raised high on concrete stanchions, it led out into the surrounding scrub and we would balance precariously along what seemed for miles. I can remember my fear of falling off into the the goanna scrub, though i had not seen a goanna that day....the texture of goannas loomed large in my young mind. I sat on the stairs of the nissan hut we inhabited almost a year , there was a recession and my dad was not finding a job, when the most stunningly beautiful green eyed fly landed on my knee and as I admired it the sting came as a hugh shock and I learnt a profound lesson about this new country. I think politicians in australia are like that green eyed fly....behind the sophistry is a sting.

No poetry.
There are so many poems and stories that I would like to tell but i am in a rage against the war which will not desist...its interesting in australia how the media are pulling Iraq off the front pages..... they are pulling focus from the scene of the crime....I cannot also help reflecting on how much war is male phallocentric wierdness...its all blokes insecure about thier dicks... and weapons... and power... and fear....and innocent civilians become grist to thier mill in such a sordid way...and the population against thier better judgement become complicit in the bloodshed and our taxes finance this ludicrous war machine..... a war machine to unleash on a third world country like Iraq....its despicable.....and still the unanswered furphy ?...where are the weapons of mass destruction ?

Death of Iraq civilian woman.
'These are good days these are days of freedom'...President George Bush....Well with all due respect Mr President I believe that these are appalling days ,days of oppression and days where violence and the denial of basic human rights are portayed as positive iniatives to free the Iraqi peoples. Last night on SBS ,Australia's premium public broadcaster ,the program "dateline' interviewed the Syrian forign minister...this is one of the most important current affairs programs I have ever seen....the transcript of the interview is available on the SBS website...this interview was mindblowing , so to SBS I just want to say thank you....they followed this interview with an examination of the state of the internal affairs of Afghanistan ....again a really important piece of investigative journalism.

Human rights and justice.
Human rights and justice are the imperative of this new century...have we not learnt from the tens of millions that died as a result of war in the 20th century...why are our governments and the multinational media outlets such as Rupert Murdoch's News Limited { limited being the operative word ]so intent on persuading us that war solves problems . Do not be persuaded by war mongering self serving manipulators whose only real concern is the power of the dollar. All people , regardless of colour , gender , and creed deserve justice and the protection of their human rights..

Whats going on?
The following buildings in Baghdad have either been destroyed or burnt or looted...ministery of irragation, ministery of commerce, ministery of transport, Sahat telephone exchange, the olympic commitee , and the National museum.......but the Ministery of oil building is completely untouched and is guarded by coalition troops...... this will inspire enourmous confidence in the Iraq people concerning the intentions of the coalition presence in Iraq...[sic] So what is really going on?...and further, one can only be alarmed by the emerging rhetoric concerning Syria..... the cause of international justice is not being served by threats to Damascus.

I am not anti-U.S.
One of the major prevailing arguments made by the "right" is that if you oppose the war in Iraq you are Anti-american...well I oppose the war but I do not have an anti-american bone in my body...how could I?..there is so of american culture and people that I admire tremendously....New York school painting , so much great film making , Barney Newman for god sake and the Marx brothers, Noam Chomskey , Michael Moore , Ramsey Clark , Six Feet Under ,and lets not forget that gem of a movie "animal House"....the list of great American people and culture would require a book...however , with all due respect I do not have to support the neo-conservative agenda of the Bush administration and I believe "the ultimatum of George Bush that "you are either with us or against us " is an extrordinary denial of free speech....and should be condemned....

Needless Iraq civilian death.
Amongst the hoopla of this so called millitary victory ,our nation Australia has undertaken a pre-emptive war without the mandate of the U.N. security council, under the pretext of the threat of weapons of mass destruction that very likely do not exist...the seriousness of the precedent that we have set is being systematically under-estimated by both our government and the media { particularly Rupert Murdoch's Fox network and his disgraceful national rag "the Australian ' newspaper amongst others} I am disturbed by the possibility that Syria and Iran will become the new scape goats for neo-conservative imperialism ... we face a frightening situation which is further exacerbated by the continual loss of historicy in our western political system...we judge complex cultural differences by our own standards...its all about fear of the "other"...

Salt to a wound.
Since August 6th 1990 Security Council sanctions have killed more than a million and a half people in Iraq, mostly infants ,children, and chronically ill and left millions more stunted, with crippled bodies, shortened lives, and minds scarred by the realization that rich nations forced this devastating impoverishment and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment on their entire people..... Ramsey Clarke...letter to security council 5th january 1999.....now for the piece de resistance ....as if this barbarity is not enough the coalition of the willing [sic] will now invade you and devastate your country at the cost of approximately a trillion american dollars...[very good value for the money ..sic ]. Razek al-Kazem al-Khafaji lost his wife, six children , his father and mother ,his three brothers and their wives late on Monday 31st of March when the pick-up truck they were driving was blown up by a rocket from a U.S. apache helicopter......
